[Story]

NPR is the home to storytelling across America. Our NPR Poster Series explores unique artists across America who show dedication to innovation in their craft and represent our mission of storytelling.

Maia (Meech) Boakye is the second artist featured in our inaugural poster series. The 21-year-old artist and illustrator from Atlanta, now based in Toronto, Canada, started drawing when they discovered an online drawing tool, creating simple compositions with various color combinations. Today, Boakye focuses on the ways textured hair and androgynous figures are represented in contemporary art. Their work is inspired by illustrators like Loveis Wise and Christopher Delorenzo.

“I drew this illustration to reflect a sense of connectedness and nostalgia. I remember listening to NPR as a kid in the backseat of my dad’s car. We both had to wake up at 5 AM to start our day. When I went off to university several years later, I got into podcasts, listening to stories on NPR to get myself to an 8 AM. My family was now thousands of miles away and I realized how comforting it was to hear a familiar voice every morning.” Maia (Meech) Boakye

In this Limited Edition Series, each poster is signed and numbered by the artist.  This poster will be a beautiful addition to any NPR lover’s home, office or any open space.
